if you shave down the ribs, it'll become a little more flimsy. The only problem you might encounter, depending on how well you prep the surface, is that your paint job might crack or chip off. I'm sure those who have already done this can give you a little more insight into the durability of the shaved shroud, but I'm sure it'll hold up just fine.
